Your wedding should be a beautiful, authentic reflection of you and your partner. If that looks less like a grand ballroom event and more like a private escape to the mountains, that’s exactly what it should be! Today, elopements are far more common than they once were, helping couples save money and focus on what’s most important – committing to spend the rest of your life with your best friend. If you’re looking for the perfect mountain destination for a secluded and spectacular elopement, you may want to think about a Colorado Springs elopement – let me tell you why!
Colorado Springs is gorgeous year-round, but every season offers something totally different.
Fall is a beautiful time to elope when the air is crisp and cool (if not chilly) and the leaves are stunning. The Aspens turn to a bright golden yellow, turning the mountainsides into a bright canvas of color. You’ll need to plan to wear layers, especially if eloping outdoors, but that’s the best part about eloping in Colorado Springs!
Winter is perfect for ski and snowboard enthusiasts. However, while cold, Colorado Springs experiences milder winters than other mountain towns at higher altitudes. Prepare for unpredictable weather and find a glam coat to wear over your wedding attire – it’s worth it for backdrops of peaceful, glistening snowbanks!
Spring brings vibrant wildflowers and comfortable temperatures, though the weather could be particularly unpredictable; you may encounter rain, snow, excessive heat, or thunderstorms. Summers are hot and sunny, so bring your sunscreen!
When picking a particular date, remember that weekdays will yield fewer crowds, especially if you’re eloping in a popular area. If you have your heart set on a weekend date, I strongly recommend a sunrise elopement; you’ll have beautiful lighting and fewer people photobombing!
There are many perfect spots for a romantic elopement with stunning backdrops, but here are a few of my favorites!
Garden of the Gods: This spectacular natural wonder features some of the most beautiful and unique scenery in Colorado Springs. Remarkable red rocks, rugged landscape, and adorable wildlife create a serene and almost other-worldly setting for an extraordinary elopement.
Pikes Peak: This spot is the epitome of all things Colorado mountain adventures. Hike, drive, or take a train to the top of the mountain for unforgettable views from a striking Colorado altitude of over 14,000 feet!
Pike National Forest: If you’re looking for a spot with beautiful forest vibes and the added bonus of rustic mountain views, this may be your spot! A quick 20-minute drive outside of Colorado Springs, your elopement will exude romance and Colorado charm.
Research shows that couples eloping in Colorado Springs spend between $8,000 and $20,000 when eloping. Granted, you can absolutely get away with spending the minimum of $30 on your marriage license, but chances are you’ll want to spend a little more. You’ll also need to consider location permits, depending on where you want to elope.
Then, there’s photography, attire, travel, and other details like florals and officiants. And, of course, you’ll want to celebrate your marriage somehow, whether it’s a weekend getaway at a local resort or a world-class meal. Your celebration can be as low-key or as indulgent as you choose!
Wherever and whenever you decide to elope in Colorado Springs, you’ll want to be sure you have a great photographer who can capture every moment for you. Just because you don’t have a large guest list to celebrate by your side doesn’t mean you shouldn’t capture as many beautiful moments and memories as possible on your wedding day! I’d love to help you photograph your Colorado Springs elopement, and I know you’ll love the pictures I’ll take.
